We need to end this ridiculous war on this beautiful plant

There was a time early on in American history when farmers were required to grow cannabis. Hemp was used to make sails, rope, and clothing. Even in certain states, hemp was used for legal tender. Then much later when there was a lot of immigration coming from Mexico, along with them came recreational use of Cannabis which was popular with the immigrants. They called it marijuana as it was a popular Mexican slang term for Cannabis. With the growing racial tensions, they started to link crimes with the use of marijuana and Mexican people. There was a rising fear that Marijuana was dangerous and made people go crazy. Eventually many states outlawed marijuana and soon to follow came the reefer madness movement which effectively resulted in marijuana becoming illegal in 1937. This resulted from a popular film that demonized cannabis making it seem that people went crazy and became violent. Later studies showed that there was zero truth to these claims, yet the laws continued to be made to enforce strict non-use of Cannabis. Regardless, people who wanted to use Cannabis still used it regardless of the extremely harsh penalties and mandatory sentences. It is no secret that people of color have been the most targeted for Cannabis use. Today with legalization, many people are able to grow their own Cannabis now and use this valuable medicine for their particular needs. As we move on, more people are starting to see the overwhelming benefits of Cannabis and more people are learning how to grow this marvelous plant. Hopefully Cannabis becomes legal worldwide soon so we can end this ridiculous war on this beautiful plant.
