Busted for driving across state lines with marijuana

I didn’t know it was illegal to drive across state lines with marijuana until I got stopped by the police.

I wasn’t using marijuana at the time, but the officer told me that the car smelled like weed.

He used that as an excuse to search the vehicle. I had my legal marijuana prescription in the back of the car in my suitcase. It was in the original packaging from the medical marijuana dispensary. It was in the trunk of the car and in no place that I would have been able to access the item. I was on my way home from having Thanksgiving dinner with my mom. I stayed for a couple of days, so I took my medical marijuana prescription. It’s the same as taking my blood pressure medicine and birth control pill daily, but those items aren’t illegal and weed is in some places. When the police officer found my medical marijuana prescription, the guy acted like he found five pounds of heroin in the back of my car. He drew his weapon and started yelling for me to get down on the ground. I was scared and terrified and I did exactly what he told me to do. He put me in handcuffs and took me to the county jail for booking. I spent the night in jail, but the case was dismissed the next morning by a sympathetic judge. I still can’t believe that the cops treated me like that over a legal prescription drug from a state that borders this one. It makes me want to file a lawsuit against the police department.
