My Mom has a long history with drugs, for better or worse, but he and I have started really connecting lately, which is a case of “better late than never” I supposed, because she wasn’t around easily much when I was growing up; Of course I carried a pretty huge grudge against mom, however she seems to really be trying her best to connect with me, which to be fair is all I ever wanted from my mother. I knew about her history with drugs and going to prison, and finally I got to hear her side of it. My mom never went to jail for smoking weed, but for selling it. She had started selling cannabis before I was born as a way to make extra money for me and my brothers. Mom didn’t have an education, or job skills, or a job, and selling cannabis seemed like the only way she could give it to me, however when I heard it from his perspective, that he had never used violence or committed any real crimes and just sold marijuana, I stopped being resentful of him. I started to resent the government, and the cops, for making something as harmless as marijuana a criminal offense in the first place! Now there are cannabis dispensaries on every street corner, and my Mom lost years of her life for that easily same thing! Here is the interesting thing, that really did it for me, is that in all that time, my Mom never particularly smoked weed, because it was not a habit, just a way to make money.
